Metro has $267 million available to implement bus rapid transit from North Hollywood to Pasadena. We want to advocate for the use of funds that best improves the quality of Colorado Boulevard and the Eagle Rock community, while utilizing the vision set in the Take Back the Boulevard initiative as a starting point for improving safety, equity, and walkability on Colorado Boulevard.
Here are some of the improvements that we are calling for:
- A safe and kid-friendly street
- A street that provides dignified means of getting around for all regardless of their transportation choices, age, abilities, or socio-economic status
- Resources and assistance to protect residents and businesses from displacement
- Support for small businesses, old and new, through construction
- A street that supports sidewalk dining
- A beautifully landscaped median with mature and healthy trees
- A unique destination with a ‘Main Street’ feel
- Replacement of any removed trees at an 8:1 ratio
- Build out of community streetscape plans such as Take Back The Boulevard and Rock The Boulevard for pedestrian-, transit-, and bicycle-friendly streets
- A fully shaded streetscape
- Quick, efficient, and regular transit service to and from adjacent cities
- Quality, shaded transit stations
- Reduced pedestrian crossing distances and more regular crosswalks
- Traffic calming on adjacent residential streets to stop cut-through traffic
- Metro bike share service for the Eagle Rock community to connect to transit stations
